Imphal, September 11: Taking a serious note of the news report that the Centre has asked the State Government to submit a report on the recent incident at Tangkhul Hundung in which 10 KLA cadres were killed by the NSCN (IM), Kuki Movement for Human Rights has cautioned against sending any report to the Centre without consulting the victim community for details.

In an open letter to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the Kuki rights body asserted that the past history of Kukis have witnessed many false and fabricated reports sent to the Centre without proper consultation of the Kuki people and as a result the Kukis problem had been sidelined till today.

The open letter said that the Kuki civil organisations have made their stand clear and a Fact Finding team constituted.

Therefore, no fabricated report should be sent without the knowledge of the Kukis, and if it had been sent already, then a copy of the same must be provided to them.

The State Government should take the matter seriously to usher in peace and social harmony, it said and added that otherwise, it may lead to a civil war and the State Government should be fully held responsible for any untoward incidents.

KMHR added that even now the State Government has been protecting the Tangkhuls only amongst other Nagas in the State and no protection has been ever given to the Kukis.

The Kukis have only recorded the partiality of the Government of Manipur until now.

Thus the recent Tangkhul Hundung village massacre must be minutely investigated leaving no stone unturned, in order to bring in peace and tranquillity, the open letter stated.

On the other hand, while expressing shock over the recent killing of 10 KLA cadres by NSCN (I-M) at Tangkhul Hundung, the zonal chairmen of Zeliangrong Union (AMN) have appealed to the groups concerned to negotiate and work settle the matter without any delay.

In a joint statement, chairman of ZU Imphal Zone, K Sanachao, chairman of ZU Nungba Zone PG Chailin, chairman of ZU Stp Zone NG Luikang and chairman of ZU South Zone PG Agang said that the attempt being made by some Kuki social organisations to create repercussion by taking into reference on the unfortunate event of 1993-1995 (Kuki-Naga conflict) through media is really unfortunate and appealed to all social organisations not to mislead the event to flare up communal tension.

The Union is of the opinion that the incident was purely the armed conflict between the two revolutionary groups, which should not have any impact on the existing social fabric of co-existence and mutual understanding of different communities living in the State, the joint statement said.

While condemning that fratricidal killing among he different revolutionary groups operating in the NE region of India, the joint statement further appealed to all different revolutionary groups to shun violence.
