Imphal, October 10 2026: Denying the charge that Inner Manipur Lok Sabha MP Prof Bimol Akoijam sexually harassed some female students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has categorically stated that the truth cannot be concealed and will eventually come out.

Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan today, Ibobi, who is the president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), said that the allegations levelled against the party MP appeared to be a ploy by the BJP to take political mileage and divert attention from its own failure to resolve the issues plaguing Manipur.

Allegations against Lok Sabha MP: A ploy of BJP, alleges Ibobi

It is not as if the Congress party is shielding the MP, but he had not faced such charges during his career at JNU spanning over three decades, Ibobi said.

Saying that the Congress party does not believe Prof Bimol would misbehave towards his female students, the former Chief Minister reiterated that the truth surrounding the incident would eventually come out one day.

When asked whether the Congress party suspected the involvement of the BJP and RSS in maligning the image of Prof Bimol, Ibobi said that people knew it better.

Everyone knows whom the ABVP works for, he said.

Regarding the crisis in Manipur, the Congress leader said that law and order has collapsed in the State during the BJP's tenure.

He also said that incidents of killing, arson and other forms of violence continue unabated in the State, with the situation deteriorating day by day in the hill districts.

Ibobi said that armed attacks had taken place even near an Assam Rifles camp under Chassad police station in Kamjong district.

The press briefing was also attended by party MLAs K Ranjit, Th Lokeshwar and O Surjakumar, along with other party leaders, former MLAs and Ministers.
