Imphal, August 10 2026:
The Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak has called a general strike from 5 am to 5 pm of August 15, the Independence Day of India.
A statement issued by the outfit's Secretary, Publicity and Organisation MC Yaiphabi said that Kangleipak was never a part of the history of India and likewise, India did not figure anywhere in the history of Kangleipak.
Moreover, there is no similarity in terms of culture, physical appearance, dressing style and food habits between the people of India and the people of Kangleipak.
Even to this day, the people of India cannot see the Kanglei people as fellow citizens.
On the contrary, the Government of India, by deploying innumerable number of military personnel, have been subjecting the people of Kangleipak to systematic repression, it alleged.
Alleging that the current communal conflict is a machination of the Government of India, the outfit appealed to all the people of Kangleipak not to join the Indian Independence Day celebration.
It added that there is no reason for the people of Kangleipak to take part in the Independence Day celebration of India.
After living under British colonial rule for 56 years from 1891 to 1947, Kangleipak/Manipur has been living under Indian occupation from 1949 till date, it said.
After king Bodhchandra was forced to sign the Manipur Merger Agreement on September 21, 1949 under duress at Shillong, India forcibly annexed Manipur/Kangleipak on October 15, 1949.Since then, Manipur/Kangleipak has been living as a slave of India, SOREPA said.
But there was no Nation in the world which remained silent after their freedom and sovereignty were usurped by another Nation, it said.
A huge public meeting held at Mapal Kangjeibung on April 19, 1953 under the aegis of the Revolutionary Nationalist Party of Manipur openly declared that Manipur would not remain a part of India from that day and the meeting also adopted a resolution to this effect, SOREPA said.
This was followed by a series of civil movements before the armed resistance movement was launched in 1960-61 .
In addition to waging the armed liberation movement, all must come together and work collectively to create progressive, self-reliant, disciplined, corruption-free, industrious and harmonious society, the outfit said.
The SOREPA said that the communal violence which broke out on May 3, 2023 was a machination of the Government of India in collusion with narco-terrorists.
Since around 10 years back, extensive poppy plantations on hill ranges predominantly inhabited by immigrants.
The extensive poppy plantation formed the foundation of a lucrative business for narco-terrorists.
It also served the Government of India's objective of annihilating the indigenous people by creating a generation of drug addicts, it alleged.
Saying that all the communities have been living together since ages and these communities can never be separated, it appealed to all the communities to see through the alleged sinister plan of the Government of India, and put an end to the communal violence.
