14 CSOs Kangleipak has condemned the office of Inner Manipur MP accusing it of attempting to discredit its convenor on issues pertaining to the demand for National Register of Citizens (NRC) .
The 14 CSOs, Kangleipak has been demanding the updation of the NRC done Nationwide in 1951 after the State's merger with India.
The objective is to identify illegal immigrants or foreigners, it said in a statement.
It accused the Lok Sabha MP and his office of causing confusion among the public by making remarks that allegedly dilute the demand for NRC.
It said misrepresenting the demand for NRC and suggesting an alternate exercise other than the NRC is unfortunate.
The RTI reply which exposed that the authorities concerned were not aware or did not maintain the record of the 1951 NRC doesn't not necessarily mean the National Register of Citizens was not compiled in 1951, it said.
The 14 CSOs recalled that its Joint Committee Opposing Delimitation Exercise in Manipur (Kangleipak) had been demanding postponement of the census 2027 exercise amid the Manipur crisis until NRC is done and foreigners are identified.
Opposing census and delimitation exercises and demanding NRC, the joint committee had submitted several memoranda to Government authorities and MPs including the Inner Lok Sabha MP recently, and MLAs, it said.
