Imphal, May 09 2026:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK), and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) have urged the Government of India (GoI) to stop its "proxy war" if it genuinely intends to resolve the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
In a joint statement, the six student organisations claimed that the GoI's handling of the unrest, which has persisted since May 3, 2023, clearly indicates that the crisis is a result of its 'proxy war'.
Describing the assault on three villages in Kamjong district - Namlee, Wanglee, and Choro - allegedly carried out by Kuki militant groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact as a vile act, they demanded the release of civilians abducted during the attack.
Claiming that the Government of India (GoI) has been using SoO groups to suppress indigenous communities, they demanded an end to the alleged proxy war.
Condemning the armed aggression in Kamjong, the student organisations questioned the nature of governance in Manipur.
The student organisations urged the State Government to take up necessary measures to safeguard the indigenous people of Manipur.
