Imphal, August 07 2024:
The indefinite bandh called by Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force (LKVVF) has been suspended after Imphal-Ukhrul road was closed for sometime.
Notably, LKVVF had on August 4 announced that the Imphal-Ukhrul road would be closed indefinitely from August 7 morning if the Central forces deployed at Sabungkhok Khunou, Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi etc are not replaced by State forces within 48 hours.
People from different areas of Lamlai blocked the road at multiple points at Sawombung, Lamlai Bazar, Nongada, Sabungkhok, Yaingangpokpi etc and prevented vehicular movements.
The protesters said that Kuki militants continue to attack these localities in Lamlai AC even after the Government assured to prevent further hostility.
They also said that deployment of JAT regiment in the area is meaningless as they didn't do anything to stop the attack by Kuki militants.
During the protest, Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibom-cha Singh, Imphal East SP and Additional SP, CO of JAT regiment and OC of Yaingangpokpi police held a meeting with representatives of LKVVF and meira paibi leaders of the area at Yaingangpokpi police station.
The protesters decided to suspend their agitation after coming to terms with the MLA.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kh Ibomcha said that the Government will see what can be done to fulfil the demand of the protesters.
One of the protesters said they will intensify their agitation if the Govt doesn't take up any action as assured by the MLA.
