Central team to assess flood damage

Imphal, June 07 2024:
A Central team will arrive at Imphal on Monday to make an assessment of the damages inflicted by Cyclone Remal in the State.
Following heavy and incessant rainfall, many areas got flooded starting from May 27.The flood took a more devastating turn when several rivers started overflowing and their embankments got breached at many places.
A large number of dwelling houses, schools, colleges, roads, offices and markets were inundated by the flood.
Even today some schools could not be opened after they were flooded.
Apart from collecting a report of the damages done by the flood, the Central team will also collect another report on the havoc wreaked by hailstorm on May 5 .
Meanwhile, several Government departments have been preparing flood damage reports of their own for submission to the Central team.
PWD too has also been preparing a report on the damages done by the flood and the May 5 hailstorm.
Based on the PWD's assessment report, the Centre would provide due financial assistance for Flood Damage Repairing (FDR) .
Notably, the flood damaged many sections of highways and roads and swept away two bridges at Tamei and Kangpokpi.
