RIMS students cry foul

Imphal, May 07 2025: Students of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) held a protest today, demanding resignation of the hospital's Director and replacement of the Deans and Sub-Dean.

The protest demonstration staged by MBBS, BDS, MRI, MLT, BASLP and BSc Nursing students at the RIMS campus in the evening accused their Director of using inappropriate language towards the students and the Dean and Sub-Dean of inflicting mental harassment on them.

Placards with messages "Why Director Want Us To Be Naked", "We Accept Punishment not Harassment", "We Are Not Puppets", "We Condemn Sexual Harassment of Girls", "We Demand Removal of Director, Dean and Sub Dean" were displayed during the protest.

Speaking to the media, the protesters claimed that some medical students who participated in a RIMS dance competition in April were harassed by the institution's authorities over their attire after receiving prizes.

They alleged that the RIMS Director made inappropriate comments.

Saying that they went for a picnic on April 30, they added that the RIMS Director, Deans and Sub Deans asked them to pay a fine while some were suspended.

They demanded the Director's removal.

They stated that many students were evicted from RIMS hostels, causing significant inconvenience to students from other States.

The protesters further alleged that RIMS authorities were infringing on students' rights and called on the relevant authorities to investigate and take necessary action.
