As part of the year long UNIDEP (Unity, Development and Peace) Campaign, a free medical camp was organised at Kambiron (Puiluon) village of Tamenglong district yesterday.
Located about 14 kms away from Nungba sub-division headquarters and 131 kms (approximately) away from Imphal along NH 53, Kambiron is a backward village.
The village having a total population of 1000, most of whom belong to the Rongmei group is also the birthplace of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang.
During the camp organised by the UNIDEP Campaign committee, 332 people were provided free medical assistance and medicines.
Other than the medical camp, information/education campaign on leprosy, malaria, TB and HIV was also conducted there.
Moreover anti-malaria tablets and insecticide treated mosquito nets were also distributed to the villagers.
The medical team was also assisted by doctors and para-medical staff belonging to Medical Directorate, State Malaria Officer, MACS and other relevant Government Departments/agencies.
Medicines worth about Rs 1 lakh distributed during the medical camp were donated by the Manipur Chemists' and Druggists' Association and the Medical Representatives.
Speaking at the occasion, UNIDEP Campaign committee convenor and AMUCO president R Yangsosong Koireng said that the medical camp was organised as a small part of the UNIDEP Campaign launched in November 2006 with the objective to bring unity, development and peace in Manipur.
In addition to such medical camps, the UNIDEP Campaign committee has been providing assistance to people suffering from natural calamities or adverse conditions, he stated.
On behalf of the villagers, Kambiron village chairman Gangzik Gangmei conveyed gratitude to the UNIDEP Campaign committee as well as to those who came there to help the villagers.
