Imphal, June 05 2025:
The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild of Manipur (EGM) have resolved to continue the ongoing boycott of Government related news and information, including State and Central forces operating in the State.
The resolution was made during a joint meeting of AMWJU and EGM held today at 2 pm to discuss the progress of the inquiry by the Committee of Officers regarding the Gwaltabi incident and the ongoing boycott, said a press release issued by AMWJU and EGM .
The meeting observed that the Inquiry Committee set up by the Government failed to submit its report within 15 days as stipulated in the Government order dated May 21, 2025 .
On the other hand, the Inquiry Committee also served a summons (June 3) through the AMWJU to the media persons on board the MST bus which was detained by security forces requiring them to appear before the Committee at 11 am on June 7 to give their statements.
Taking these developments into consideration, the joint meeting resolved to continue the boycott as per Resolution No 2 of the emergency general body meeting of AMWJU and EGM held on May 21.According to the resolution, AMWJU and EGM had decided to continue the boycott till the Inquiry Committee submits its report and appropriate action is taken against erring officials.
However, the relaxation on coverage of news related to emergency services in view of the flood situation will continue as per the resolution taken by a joint meeting of AMWJU and EGM.
The AMWJU and EGM appealed to the Manipur Government to expedite the inquiry process as soon as possible and deliver justice so that the boycott can be lifted.
AMWJU and EGM urged the public to understand the stand they have adopted.
The statement has also urged the journalists who were on board the MST bus enroute to Shirui Lily Festival on May 20 at Gwaltabi to cooperate with the inquiry and present themselves at Room No 188, Manipur Secretariat (South Block), Imphal at 11 am on June 7 .
