New Delhi, March 05:
The MP from the Inner Manipur Constituency Dr Thokchom Meinya stated in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that for a developing country like India where there was much diversity, economic development was the key to everything.
Supporting the motion of thanks on the President's address moved by the Lok Sabha members - Ajit Jogi and Krishna Tirath, Dr Meinya expressed happiness on the achievements of the UPA Government led by Prime Ministe, Dr Manmohan Singh.
Further, he mentioned that there were different problems for India.
He opined that the Government had to balance all these things and at the same time, there had to be no compromise on principles.
Dr Meinya also drew the attention of the House on the Naga Integration which he had raised the matter under the Rule 377 on Monday.
He explained that there were only three States in the North Eastern India at the formation of the Indian Union.
Assam was a big State, Manipur was a princely State and Tripura was also a Princely State.
Manipur merged into India in 1949 with a very clear-cut geographical boundary, he added.
He forecast that if there was an attempt to destroy the State again, there would be bloodshed in the State.
He cited the incident took place in 2001 in Manipur.
He said, "In the incident when the Government of India and NSCN (IM) signed an agreement extending the territorial limits, there were large people coming out on the street.
About 18 persons including a woman died.
All the Government offices were burnt.
Because of that situation, I raised the issue again and again".
Dr Meinya urged the Union Government to respect and preserve the Manipur's territorial integrity as it was at the time of its merger into India.
