Mom-son killed in road mishap

Thoubal, August 04 2025: A mother and her 18-year-old son were killed in a tragic road accident at Thoubal district today.

The accident occurred on Asian Highway-1 near District Hospital Thoubal at around 10 am .

The deceased mother and son have been identified as Soibam Premila (46) and Soibam Arjun (18) .

Premila was the wife of Soibam Manithoi of Thoubal Achouba Pakhangkhong Leirak.

The mother was taking her son on a scooter to the District Hospital for a medical examination when they were run over by a DI Tata vehicle carrying water.

Police said the mother and son were riding a Kinetic Honda, and they were stopping at the road divider to cross the road towards the District Hospital gate when the four-wheeler knocked them down from the rear.

The mother was killed instantly.

People retrieved the bodies from the bottom of the vehicle.

Grievously injured, the son was rushed to Raj Medicity Imphal, but succumbed on the way.

Family members said Arjun had cleared the 2022 Class XII examination in Science stream from Herbert School and was preparing for medical entrance examination.

Thoubal police have registered a case, and the driver of the four-wheeler vehicle has been arrested.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to JNIMS Hospital Porompat for postmortem.

The bodies will be claimed after the eldest son, who is in Delhi, returns tomorrow, said family members.
