The State bomb disposal squad safely detonated a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Old Jail Jesami Road today at around 3.40 pm .
According to reliable sources, the remote controlled IED was found placed in front of a shop at Wino Bazar under Ukhrul police station yesterday at around 7 pm.
The shop (RR Store Grocery Shop) belongs to one Ramsunder Thakur of Bihar.
Ukhrul police and personnel of 25 Assam Rifles picked up the bomb and kept it on the footpath nearby the whole night yesterday by cordoning the area off.
The State bomb disposal squad rushed to Ukhrul in the morning today and defused the IED.
As per the source, the IED was found fitted with one electric detonator, 1-9 volt battery, one remote control circuit, 800 grams of explosive and aluminium plates.
The IED was disposed of by the bomb disposal squad at Old Jail Jesami Road at around 3.40 pm.
Meanwhile, many organisations based in Ukhrul Town viz the Hunphun VA, All Hunphun Tangs Association, Hunphun Katamnao Long and Wino Tang, Ukhrul have condemned the planting of a bomb.
They said that planting a bomb in a public place over monetary demand is an act of terrorism as it inflicts fear in the minds of innocent people.
These organisations appealed to the law enforcing agency to book the perpetrators and penalise them befittingly as per the law.
Safety of innocent civilians must be ensured, they demanded.
