Ukhrul, October 03: PR Kyndiah, Union Minister of DONER and Tribal Welfare, paid a maiden visit to Ukhrul today.

A public reception was held at Ukhrul Town Hall where the Minister was given a warm and cordial welcome by scores of DLO's NGO's and social organizations .

Addressing the people Kyndiah stated that the Centre is ready to extend any help to develop the region and also welcomed any proposal and request from the region.

The Minister said that 5 (five) District Hospitals are in the pipeline in the hill districts of the State.

Moreover, DONER is also considering the proposal of Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing, to lay inter-village link roads to be connected to the district headquarters.

Chief Minister O Ibobi who was present in his speech said that his Government is placing top priority on the hill districts of Manipur to ensure steady development with special emphasis on Education, Health and Water supply.

A memorandum was also submitted to the Union Minister by, TNL, TKS, TSL and TMNL.

The memorandum stated that Ukhrul Dist, one of the oldest Dists, of Manipur with a population of over 1.40,775 as per 2004 census covering an area of 4,544 sq km is the most peaceful and secure place in Manipur today.

However, the district continues to suffer from want of many essential and basic things, said the memorandum and mentioned the absence of proper inter village link roads, proper telecommunication system and most of all proper banking facilities are other prominent faces.

The memorandum urged for prompt action to improve the Ukhrul Dist Hqs road, construction of toilets at suitable intervals for public convenience, construction of common septic tank and soak pit for common health, construction of cement concrete footpaths along the main road of the Hqs for public safety, construction of community marketing complex, construction of metal led road from Kamjong to Huimine Thana for promotion of trade and commerce at the IndoMyanmar border with a view to setting up of Border trading centre and in tune with the 'Look East Policy' of the Government of India, Enhancement of Telecommunication system like Installation of C-DOT (SBM) at the HQ, Installation of one RSU, Installation of Mobile BTS at Kamjong, Chingai, Phungyar, Kasom Khullen, Yaingangpokpi and Ringui for proper and smooth functioning in all the nooks and corners of the District, Opening State bank of India (SBI) and to provide a system funding facility through local NGOs as agencies for cultivation of Jatropha Plants in all the 198 villages of the Dist.
