Imphal, August 03 2024: A police officer has been placed under suspension today for assaulting a reporter in broad daylight.

The suspended officer has been identified as Sub Inspector Sh Nikhil Singh of Imphal East commandos.

An order to this effect was issued by Imphal East SP K Meghachandra, wherein it states that, "a disciplinary proceeding is being contemplated against SI Sh Nikhil Singh for his grave misconduct which is not expected from a member of a disciplined force like the Police Department" .

Notably, the police officer (Nikhil) is placed under suspension for assaulting a senior reporter of Impact TV despite the latter identifying himself as a media person coming to cover a protest of IDPs at Akampat on August 1 .

The suspension will remain effective until further order, the SP said.

The order further said that the headquarters of the suspended police officer will be Reserve Line, Porompat and he will not leave his headquarters without obtaining prior information from the Imphal East SP .

He (the suspended police officer), however, will be entitled subsistence allowance as admissible under rules during the period of his suspension.
