Old age pensioners in Thangmeiband confused

Imphal, August 03 2012: With local MLA Kh Joykishan and Vice President of MPCC Jyotin Waikhom locking horns over dispensing old age pensions and announcing different dates for distribution of the benefits, the beneficiaries in Thangmeiband A/C are in a state of confusion today.

While MLA Kh Joykishan has informed the old aged pensioners that the pensionary benefits would be distributed on August 4, MPCC Vice President Jyotin Waikhom has collected all the pension cards along with circulating leaflets stating that the old age pension would be distributed on August 10 .

Speaking to media persons at his residence in Thangmeiband, MLA Kh Joykishan questioned whether Congress party has any specific policy and programme that says that its workers have to distribute the old age pension and informed that Jyotin Waikhom has collected all the pension cards of the old aged pensioners assuring that he would be distributing the pensions to the old aged persons.

Observing that bringing politics into distribution of old age pensions would not bear fruit in future, Joykisan said that as an MLA he was just trying to distribute pensions to the old aged persons in consultation with Social Welfare Department.

It is wrong and against the law to collect forcefully all the pension cards on the pretext of distributing the benefits.

The MLA disclosed that one Kh Ahanjaobi, Chairman of District Level Committee, NSAP, Imphal West, who is also the member Secretary of DSWO Imphal West, had informed him that the dates for distribution of old age pensions have been advertised in local newspapers and the schedule for distribution of pension with regard to Thangmeiband A/C falls on August 4.However, Jyotin Waikhom has circulated leaflets stating that the old age pension for the constituency would be distributed on August 10.This had caused confusion in the minds of the general public, the MLA noted.

The pensioners of the constituency have even gone to the office concerned to enquire about their pension cards but one Councilor Bina informed that the same are with Jotin Waikhom, MLA Joykishan said, while announcing that distribution of old age pensions for Thangmeiband A/C would be done on August 4 at Leone Community Hall.
