Imphal, June 03 2024:
More than 3500 bags of Urea, MOP, NPK (14:35:14), NPK (12:12:12) and NP (14:28:0) worth around Rs 70 lakh have been spoiled by the recent flood.
These fertilizers stored in different godowns at Ahallup, Lairikyengbam Leikai and Laipham Khunou were meant for distribution to farmers of Imphal East district, particularly those of Pangei Road, Lamlai, Heingang and Khurai.
Fertilizer dealer Thoudam Sarat Singh inspected the godowns today but he found all the bags empty as the fertilizers have dissolved totally in the flood waters.
Sarat said that the fertilizers were meant for distribution to farmers through agents but almost all the fertilizers have been washed away by the sudden flood.
With the fertilizers now gone, there may be some problems in ensuring fertilizers to the farmers of Imphal East district in adequate quantities on time, he said.
He also expressed keen desire for the Government to take up all possible measures to ensure that farmers have access to adequate quantities of fertilizers on time.
He also sought reimbursement of the fertilizers spoiled by flood.
More than 1 lakh people have been affected by floods in Manipur.
