BJP derides Deputy Chief Minister appointment

Imphal, November 02 2012: Appointment of Home Minister Gaikhangam as Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur was Chief Minister Okram Ibobi's tactics to divert public attention from graft charges and corruption scandals in which O Ibobi was allegedly involved, asserted that BJP North East zonal organising secretary Chandrasekhar Rao.

Briefing media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, Chandrasekhar Rao alleged that even though Ibobi has appointed Gaikhangam as his deputy, Ibobi cannot escape from the many scandals and major issues in which he is deeply involved.

Besides being a small State, Congress party has 42 MLAs in the Manipur Legislative Assembly and the party is enjoying absolute majority.

Under such circumstances, it lacks justification for the Congress Government to create a post of Deputy Chief Minister.

"Now, Ibobi has put his burden on the back of Gaikhangam", claimed the BJP leader.

Just as the Gandhi family has been churning out scams after scams using muscle power at the Centre, O Ibobi's family has been openly looting public money in Manipur, he alleged further.

A fake company named K-Pro has swindled a huge amount of fund in the name of removing phumdis from Loktak Lake.

The fake company is run by none other than Chief Minister Ibobi's son, he alleged.

Whereas the UPA Government has shown little interest in the North Eastern States, Congress Ministers and MLAs have been looting the natural resources available in the North East region.

Stating that Public Distribution System has become a total failure in the region, Chandrasekhar Rao declared that BJP would launch an anti-corruption movement against Congress leaders.

Former Union Minister Th Chaoba said that not a single engineer of K-Pro has ever visited Loktak Lake and no new machinery was brought for the phumdi clearance work.

All the machinery currently engaged in clearing phumdis belong to Loktak Development Authority.

Claiming that BJP-led NDA would come back to power at the Centre after the next Lok Sabha elections, Chaoba said that a plethora of corruption scandals involving Congress party has brightened the prospect of BJP.

Even though there are 42 Congress MLAs in Manipur, not a single Congress MP would be elected from the State, Chaoba said.

BJP State unit president Sh Shantikumar claimed that BJP would be able to provide a clean political system in place of the existing corrupted system after the Lok Sabha elections.

Shantikumar also announced that M Ranjit, son of former Minister M Manihar from Wabagai AC has joined BJP.
