Kuki militants fire on vehicles on Imphal-Ukhrul road

Imphal, May 02 2026: Normal commute along National Highway 202 between New Heaven and TM Kasom under Litan police station was disrupted after suspected Kuki militants opened fire from Chepu Yaolen village today.

Sources said intermittent firing started at around 11.30 am disrupting vehicular movement for hours.

Several rounds of bullets were fired at intervals, but it caused no casualty or damage to the vehicles on the highway, added the sources.

Kuki CSO Working Committee, meanwhile, has accused armed Tangkhul men of firing towards Chepu Yaolen.

Notably, this incident came days after an ambush on the highway at TM Kasom area killed two Tangkhul men including a former Army soldier on April 18 .

A team of personnel of Chingai police station was fired upon by suspected Kuki militants on April 24 .
