Imphal, June 01 2024: Special Judge ND&PS Manipur Monalisa Maibam on Saturday convicted one 65 year old man under Section 21 (C) of ND&PS Act.

The sentence hearing will take place on June 3 to announce the quantum of punishment.

The judgment order was kept reserved from May 23 onwards after the final hearing of the special trial case under ND&PS Act against the convict Khupal Khong-sai, s/o (L) Jalijang Khong- sai of Molnom village, Litan.

The convict who is presently in judicial custody was produced before the Court virtually, today.

The case was on against the convict after he was arrested on October 20, 2022 by a team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur personnel from Kanglatongbi along Imphal-Dimapur road along with 3.045 Kg of brown sugar.

The convict was coming from Senapati toward Imphal in a Tata Xenon pick-up truck.

The IO of the case, after investigation, filed a charge-sheet against the convict for trial under Section 21(C) and Section 25 of NDPS Act in the early part of 2023 .

The Court framed charges against the convict for trial in October last year .

During the trial, prosecution in order to prove the charges level against the convict produced a number of witnesses and material exhibits before the Court.

No witnesses were produced in defence of the convict during the trial.

During the hearing of the trial case, the Court heard the submission of Special PP Moirangthem Raichand and defence counsel before Khupal Khongsai was convicted.

The Court also directed the authority concerned to confiscate the vehicle used by the convict.
