KCP greets on New Year, calls for reconciliation

The proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has issued a New Year message, stating that Manipur ends 2025 still deeply scarred by ethnic violence, pervasive mistrust, and significant human suffering.
The message, issued by KCP's Politburo Standing Committee, lamented that thousands of people have been displaced, homes reduced to ashes, livelihoods taken away, and the social fabric, painstakingly woven over generations, has been torn apart due to the prolonged ethnic conflict.
The party declared that any individual or organisation, Meitei, Kuki-Zo or Naga, that seeks to promote welfare of their own community by directing hatred or undermining or harming another is the true and most destructive enemy.
"Such forces do not represent the masses or any worthwhile ideas; they simply exploit the masses and their emotions!", it added.
The party asserted that the violent conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which was triggered at an event in Churachandpur on May 3, 2023, has by no means benefited the masses of either side.
"On the contrary, only a small group of unscrupulous individuals and organisations have clearly gained from this bloodshed mostly at individual levels.
While ordinary families mourn their dead and struggle to survive in these increasingly dire circumstances, only these vested interests grow richer and more powerful, thanks clearly to the bloodshed! When their evil influence starts waning or they run out of money, their default strategy is to reignite tension and violence between the two unfortunate communities.
The unprovoked firing by Kuki-Zo narco -terrorist elements at Torbung on the evening of Dec 17, 2025 is yet another piece of evidence that this strategy is very much in play", it added.
The party highlighted the impact of illegal poppy cultivation, criminal networks and environmental destruction, alleging that these issues have intensified instability and deepened communal divisions.
It claimed that cross-border criminal elements and drug cartels continue to exploit the disturbed situation.
"Another dangerous force driving this tragedy is communal chauvinism.
When identity is weaponised and fear replaces reason, society collapses from within", said KCP while adding that any violent clash or conflict involving members of different communities-anywhere in Manipur must never be viewed solely through a communal lens.
"Such incidents must always be treated first as localised, individual, or situational issues, to be investigated on facts, responsibility, and accountability.
The moment every dispute is painted as a communal confrontation, truth is buried; emotions are inflamed; and manipulators seize control, very much like what had actually transpired on May 3, 2023", it added.
The KCP also appealed for reconciliation between the communities, balanced demographic understanding, responsible leadership and social justice.
Calling for resettlement of IDPs, the party asserted that reverting the conflict-affected parcels of land and whatever is left on them to the rightful owners, whether Meiteis or Kukis, can serve as the ultimate indicator of an actual restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The Party also pointed out that conflict destroys both the present and the future of ordinary people, while enriching only a handful of unscrupulous individuals and elements.
"Manipur belongs to its indigenous communities collectively and not to merchants of hatred.
Peace is not weakness.
Peace is resistance against exploitation.
The future of Manipur now depends on this understanding; and, of course, on the choices we make from this moment onward" .
