'Kettle' bomb scare at Palace Gate

A kettle placed at the foot of the statue of Thangal General erected at the traffic island in front of the Palace Gate under Porompat police station triggered bomb scare on Wednesday morning.
According to a report, a red colour star inscribed with the letters, "PLA" was spotted at the foot of the statue of Thangal General around 7 am with a kettle nearby the star.
As some wires could be seen protruding out of the kettle, there were fears it could be a bomb.
As such, Imphal East district police was informed and a team immediately arrived at the location.
The team first removed the star and then set up a security perimeter to assess the contents of the kettle.
Upon opening the "wired" kettle, it was found to contain sweets and some bits of wire.
The kettle was removed from the location and all movement restored in the area from around 10.30am, a report informed.
