Imphal, July 23 2025:
A free coaching programme for aspiring JEE and NEET candidates from Sagolband assembly constituency was launched on Wednesday under a joint initiative of Sagolband Constituency Progressive Committee (SCPC) and Nachom Edu Foundation.
The programme, initiated under the guidance of Sagolband MLA RK Imo, aims to support 20 to 25 meritorious students, including five seats reserved for students affected/displaced by the Kuki-Meetei conflict, as part of a broader effort to provide quality academic support to students from the constituency.
Speaking during an interaction programme with parents, teachers and students held as part of the launch event, RK Imo, while noting challenges faced by students in the state in the field of education, stressed that the initiative is not just to celebrate success but to guide students achieve their life goals.
He further announced that SCPC would cover the full rental expenses for the selected internally displaced students, ensuring they can focus on their studies without additional burdens.
"No student with potential should be deprived of education due to personal or financial issues," the MLA said, urging teachers to fully support and mentor the students throughout the coaching programme.
RK Imo also drew parallels between the newly launched initiative and the "MLA Ana Layenggi Tengbang" scheme he introduced in 2022, which provides financial aid of Rs 20,000 to patients suffering from cancer, kidney, or heart-related ailments.
Over 300 residents of the constituency have benefited from the scheme to date, he added.
On the development front, the MLA informed that 98 percent of laying water pipelines in the constituency has been completed, with new pipelines laid in previously underserved areas.
He said the successful trial of the Tera Overhead Water Tank marks a significant improvement in the local water supply system.
Additionally, a new water reservoir is slated construction at the Shree Shree Bijoygovinda Complex under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.
With this addition, the constituency will have four operational water tanks, significantly addressing the issue of water scarcity, the MLA said.
