Woman pays hospital bill after 28 years, moves doctor

Noney, July 19 2025: In a heart-warming act of honesty and gratitude, 80-year old Dijinliu Kamei from Namdailong Rongmei village, Cachar district, Assam, has settled a hospital bill nearly three decades later.

Back in 1997, she underwent life-saving surgery for a uterine tumour at Burrows Memorial Christian Hospital (BMCH) in Alipur, Cachar district, Assam.

During the procedure, two large tumours weighing a total of 8.3 kg were removed from her abdomen by Dr Azin Maringmei, the then-medical superintendent of BMCH.

Due to financial difficulties at the time, her family could not pay the full bill, leaving an outstanding amount of Rs 1,500 .

Now, 28 years later, Dijinliu Kamei repaid the dues, expressing deep gratitude to Dr Azin Maringmei and the hospital staff.

As he no longer works at the hospital, she sent the amount to the hospital authorities instead.

Dr Azin Maringmei, who currently serves as the chief medical officer of Noney district, Manipur, praised her integrity, saying, "What an honest, God-fearing woman! I had told her not to pay, but she was overjoyed to clear the dues" .

Dr Azin Maringmei, a dedicated, senior doctor from the Rongmei Naga community, hails from Ramtan Naga village in Loktak Project, Manipur - and also has a second home in Longmai Bazar, Noney district.
