Imphal, December 16 2024:
All Manipur Students' Guardians' Organisation (AMSGO) has expressed serious concern regarding the reappointment of Akham Joykumar as the chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM).
In a statement, the organisation criticised the handling of the issue by the education department, particularly the recent notifications surrounding the post.
AMSGO referred to a notification issued by the joint secretary of education (S), Elangbam Soniya, on October 24, inviting applications for the post of BSEM chairman following the expiration of Akham Joykumar's tenure.
However, despite this, the education department neither repatriated Joykumar nor assigned him any other duties.
The organisation highlighted objections raised by student bodies, including DESAM, against the government's plan to reappoint Joykumar, citing various reasons.
Despite these objections, a subsequent notification on December 6 appointed Joykumar as BSEM chairman on deputation, sparking resentment among BSEM staff who allege violations of board rules and regulations.
AMSGO further expressed concern over the heavy security deployed at the BSEM office, particularly in light of the upcoming HSLC examinations in 2025.The organisation questioned the rationale of Joykumar's reappointment without repatriation, expressing suspicion of a hidden agenda behind the decision.
It urged the education minister to review the notification and ensure the smooth conduct of the HSLC exams.
AMSGO also warned of potential agitation if the issue remains unresolved within two days.
