Five MLAs under speaker's scanner

In compliance with a directive of the Manipur High Court on July 1 for settling the disqualification cases against five Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MLAs, speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly has initiated disqualification proceedings against the five MLAs on Monday.
In connection with three disqualification petitions, Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary issued notices against JD-U MLAs Kh Joykisan, Ngursanglur Sanate, Md Ashab Uddin, Thangjam Arunkumar and LM Khaute on Monday, seeking their responses on the same by September 23.The hearing of the case has been fixed on September 20 at 11.30 am.
JD-U won six seats in the last election, but five of its MLAs defected to BJP, as the latter formed the government with 37 MLAs.
