Mother, teenage son die in road mishap

Thoubal, August 04 2025: A mother and her teenage son were killed after a DI Tata truck transporting packaged drinking water rammed at them near the Thoubal District Hospital on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Premila, wife of Soibam Manithoi of Thoubal Achouba Pakhangkhong Leirak, and their youngest son Arjun (18) .

According to a police report, the incident occurred around 10 am Monday, when Premila and her son Arjun, riding a white Activa (MN01 C9105), were trying to cross the road in front of the District Hospital.

The DI Tata (AS 01IDC 4150) was travelling from Imphal towards Kakching.

With both Premila and Arjun were trapped beneath the vehicle, bystanders rushed in to pull out the mother-son duo.

However, Premila died on the spot while Arjun succumbed to injuries en-route to an Imphal hospital.

According to family members, Arjun completed his Class XII examination from Herbert School, Changangei, Imphal West in 2022 and had been preparing for medical entrance examination.

On Monday, he left for the District Hospital with his mother to treat a toothache.

Regarding the incident, Thoubal police station has registered a case, detained the driver and impounded the vehicle involved.

Meanwhile, the bodies of both have been deposited at the JNIMS Morgue for post mortem examination.
