IDPs told to submit damage report papers by Aug 10

Imphal, August 01 2025: Tengnoupal deputy commissioner (DC) Saurabh Yadav has notified that verification of damage assessment forms and submission of all necessary supporting documents will remain open till August 10, 2025, to ensure timely processing of assistance to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in/from the district.

The directive issued on Friday is part of the ongoing rehabilitation efforts for thousands displaced by ethnic violence that erupted in the state on May 3, 2023 .

More than 60,000 people were displaced by the crisis and the government is pushing forward a phased resettlement plan.

The state government, under President's Rule, has set December 2025 as the deadline to complete rehabilitation and close down relief camps.

Families whose homes were partially or fully destroyed are eligible for financial assistance, but the new amount set by the government reportedly caused resentment among the IDPs who deem it insufficient for rebuilding their houses.

Officials said that the initiative aims to enable displaced families to return to their native villages, though security concerns remain a major hurdle.

In mid-July, nearly 100 IDPs from Dolaithabi in Imphal East were stopped from returning to their abandoned homes after authorities deemed the area a sensitive fringe zone.

With the deadline for documentation approaching in Tengnoupal, IDPs are urged to act promptly as authorities prepare to accelerate the winding down of camps in line with the December timeline.
