Minister assures sign language news programmes

Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo has assured to include news programmes in sign language on local news channels to make them more accessible for the hearing-impaired population.
The International Day of Sign Language was observed by All Manipur Association of Deaf and Mute at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club here on Monday.
Speaking as the chief guest, minister Dingo highlighted the importance of sign language and informed that a project is underway to launch an application for the hearing and speech impaired through NIELIT.
He continued that no human is perfect and everyone plays an important role in the society, and assured that the department will do all that it can for the welfare of the hearing and speech impaired community.
The observance was also attended by Social Welfare Department deputy director L Dhaneshwar and social activist Rohan Philem among others.
