Tributes paid to CRPF martyr H Punshi

143 Battalion CRPF organised the 27th martyrdom anniversary cum tribute programme in memory of 'Saheed' CRPF constable general duty H Punshi Singh on Monday at Sadar Patel High School, Khurkhul village The wreath laying ceremony was organised in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by H Punshi, as per the directions of government of India, on behalf of Director General and CRPF family.
In a release, 143 Bn CRPF informed that commandant Ravinder Sharma accompanied by other officers of unit and jawans paid rich floral tributes and homage to the martyr in the presence of the martyr's brother H Leiren Singh along With his family members.
Sadar Patel High School headmaster Priyo Barta Singh, teaching staff, students, 4th IRB personnel, villagers and other eminent figures of the locality were also present at the solemn event during which a photo frame of the martyr along with gifts was presented to the family.
According to the release, on December 14, 1997, 50th Bn CRPF deployed in Bongaigaon district of Assam to counter the activities of insurgents faced an ambush while returning from an operation.
The insurgents concealed behind secure covers launched a sudden attack on the CRPF contingent.
Undeterred, the troops launched a fierce counter attack forcing the insurgents to retreat.
Despite sustaining severe injuries in the initial onslaught, the brave CRPF soldiers held their ground.
Unfortunately, in the attack five valiant troopers of CRPF including H Punshi Singh, later succumbed to their injuries and attained martyrdom on December 16, 1997 .
The commandant further assured that CRPF is always ready to take care of the martyr's family need in future.
