Lamlai festival celebrated at Phunal Maring

Imphal, October 08 2022:
As part of the Maring community's custom of clearing the roads ahead of harvesting crops, the Lamlai festival was celebrated by people of Maring community residing in Phunal Maring village under Keirao AC on Saturday.
The festival was carried out by men and women of Maring tribe dressed in their traditional attire, and it was followed by presentation of cultural dance and performances.
In this regard, Phunal Maring village chairman Pahai Medun said that although most of the tribesmen have embraced Christianity, they have not forgotten the age-old traditions and customs preserved by their forefathers.
The Lamlai festival is held once a year before the month of Poinu, when the harvest season is about to begin.
He then stressed on the importance to continue preserving our cultural traditions, irrespective of the communities one belongs to.
