Jumbo rolls of print paper set ablaze in Kangpokpi

Unidentified armed Kukis reportedly set fire to around Rs 32 lakh worth of jumbo rolls of printing paper for newspapers, which was being transport to Imphal, in an area under Kangpokpi district along National Highway-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a report, a truck (AS 25 FC 0378) carrying the jumbo rolls from Guwahati to Imphal, was stopped by unidentified armed Kukis around 1 pm Wednesday.
The armed men then took down the rolls and set them on fire.
On hearing news of the incident, security forces deployed in Kangpokpi went to the Spot and found the rolls in flame.
They, however, managed to rescue the truck driver safely.
The report stated that the arson may be have been done in retaliation against alleged obstruction to transportation of medicines from Imphal to Kangpokpi.
Mention may be made here that a ban has been in placed against the plying of Meetei vehicles or Meetei drivers through Kangpokpi area along the Imphal-Dimapur road, apart from setting fire to medical equipment and other items.
As such, no vehicle in a Meetei's name or any Meetei driver has operated through this road for over 14 months.
