Imphal, August 01 2025: Major communities should not suppress smaller ones, and all communities in the state must coexist in harmony, said Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak chairman Joychandra Konthoujam on Thursday.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a farmer training-cum-seed distribution programme organised by agriculture department and Kom Union Manipur at Thayong village in Imphal East district.

The programme aims to provide seeds to local farmers to boost self-sufficiency in food production.

Joychandra expressed gratitude to the agriculture department for distributing free and subsidised seeds to farmers, calling it a step toward making the state self-reliant in food.

He urged every community to respect one another and preserve the harmony that has existed for generations.

"Manipur is like a beautiful garden where different communities bloom like flowers.

It was built through the sacrifices of our ancestors, and it is our duty to protect it and contribute to a united society," he said.

National Food Security Mission (NFSM) state nodal officer W Subash highlighted that the pea seeds provided to farmers could be fully harvested within 80 to 90 days.

He encouraged farmers to adopt proper planting methods to maximise production and income while contributing to food security, Kom Union Manipur president Serto Ahao Kom, who presided over the event, said that the state relies heavily on supplies from outside and faces recurring shortages.

Increasing local agricultural production would reduce dependence on imports and prevent money from flowing out of the state, he added.
