Demand Committee on the Construction of Ethnic Heritage Park, Keibul Lamjao has sought Chief Minister N Biren Singh's assurance to set up an Ethnic Heritage Park at Keibul Lamjao within three days.
The demand committee member has said that failing to meet their demand will result in intensified protests and agitation in a follow up to the committee locking the gate of Keibul Lamjao National Park a few days ago in protest.
Reportedly, the women of Chandapur, Chingmei, Keibul and Sangram gathered at the gate of Keibul Lamjao National Park today and staged a sit in protest to voice their demand for the establishment of an Ethnic Heritage Park.
A stir broke out between the Keibul Police and the protesting women which was later on brought under control by Moirang SDPO.
Decrying the incident, M Shanti Devi said that the Chief Minister had already announced the setting up of an Ethnic Heritage Park at Keibul Lamjao and relevant officials had also conducted inspections of the site.
However, the recent decision of the State Government to shift the Ethnic Heritage Park from Keibul Lamjao goes against the aspirations of the residents of Keibul Lamjao, she added, strongly opposing the State's decision.
