Kakching, September 25 2024:
Staff members of Forest Range Office, Kakching along with members of Joint Co-ordination Committee on Wild-life & Biodiversity (JCCWB) recovered a bird trapping net along with a bird caught in the net, during random search of Loushipat in Sora Samuching area, on Wednesday.
The rescued bird was released on the spot.
The search was initiated after inputs about poachers setting traps at Sora Samuching after dusk and removing the same by early morning.
JCCWB Manipur convenor Romesh Ningthoujam stated that despite ongoing awareness campaigns highlighting the importance of wildlife protection, some individuals continue to engage in poaching as a profession.
While cautioning that anyone involved in such activities may face penalties under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, he called upon all to protect wildlife and regard them as close friends.
