Tamenglong, February 23 2025:
A house belonging to a widow in Thiulon village, Tousem Sub-Division, Tamenglong district, was reduced to ashes in a fire that broke out around 7 am Sunday.
The incident occurred while the homeowner, 61-year-old Guimanliu Kamei, was attending a church service, and her daughter-in-law had left to fetch water from a nearby spring.
Guimanliu lived with her two sons - one of whom has a disability - along with her daughter-in-law, a granddaughter, and a grandson.
It is suspected that the fire originated from the fireplace.
According to Thiulon Village Authority chairman Abui Gangmei, the fire caused an estimated loss of Rs 1.5 lakh.
The house, including the kitchen, was constructed of wood with tin roofing.
Upon noticing the fire, villagers rushed to the scene and worked to extinguish the flames, preventing the blaze from spreading to neighbouring homes.
