Imphal, July 19 2025:
A book entitled 'A Memorandum for Inclusion-Restoration of Meetei-Meitei Community in the List of Scheduled Tribes of Manipur', published by the Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union (MMTU), was released on Saturday at the auditorium of the directorate of information and public relations.
The book releasing function was attended by Imphal West ZP Adakshya Laishram Boby as chief guest, MMTU president Salam Gouraksihore as president, and associate professor and head of the department of Law, Manipur University, Yumnam Premananda, as guest of honour.
Regarding the book, MMTU secretary (administration) Mutum Churamani said that the union had published many books, including a socio-economic survey report.
The latest book contains research on writers of the British era and census records compiled by the union.
This book will give a new direction to the younger generation, who are still unaware of when and how illegal immigrants started entering Manipur and settling.
He said that the book offers knowledge not found in formal education and highlights the distortion of the history of the land.
He added that the emerging generation needs to work courageously for the community.
