General strike begins, blockade from Jan 19

Jiribam, January 17 2025:
Demanding deployment of adequate numbers of qualified doctors, including the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) at the 50-bedded Jiribam district hospital, the District Hospital Monitoring Committee announced launch of a 24-hour general strike from Friday midnight, and threatened imposition of indefinite economic blockade from January 19 in case government authorities ignore its demand.
Addressing media persons on Thursday, Committee co-convenor Ph Manteshori informed during a meeting held at the office of Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL), representatives of various Jiribam CSOs present assured support to the agitations by the Monitoring Committee to ensure the Jiribam District Hospital operates efficiently.
Manteshori further explained that if the committee's demands were not honoured even after the general strike, the indefinite economic blockade along the Imphal-Jiribam road would be pursued from January 19 .
