Imphal, August 16 2025:
Normal life in Manipur came to a grinding halt on Friday, paralysed by a total shutdown/general strike called by various revolutionary organisations as part of their boycott of India's Independence Day celebrations.
Markets and business establishments remained closed for the day, while traffic movement on roads was sparse.
There were no passenger services on any route and even inter-district and inter-state passenger services were off the roads.
Notably, almost all the revolutionary organisations operating in Manipur and the region imposed a total shutdown or general strike on August 15, though movement relating to emergency and essential services, medical, electricity, fire, water supply, media and religious ceremonies were exempted.
