JUC boycotts Jiri MLA, demands resignation

Peeved with alleged failure of the government to secure the release of the six women and children taken hostage by armed Kuki militants, Jiri United Committee (JUC) has boycotted Jiribam MLA and demanded the resignation of what they called a 'powerless' people's representative.
Along with announcing series of agitations to protect the abduction, JUC convenor H Priyananda told news per sons at the Babupara office of JIMPAL on Thursday, that the decision to boycott the local MLA was taken based on reports about the Jiribam legislator claiming that he is powerless to act on the issue.
Priyananda also recounted that following the Kuki militants' attack on the relief camp in Jakuradhor under the Borobekra sub-division, the JUC had demanded immediate deployment of security forces in the Barak Circle and safe return of the six individuals abducted by the militants to their families within 24 hours.
However, as authorities concerned failed to take necessary actions to rescue the abducted civilians, the JUC will launch agitations, he declared.
Regarding the planned agitations, Priyananda announced a candlelight vigil across the district, followed by a mass torch rally on Friday, and imposition of 48-hour general strike on November 16, JUC is conglomerate of various organisations including All Jiribam United Clubs' Association (AJUCA), Jiri Development Organisation (JDO), COCOMI Jiribam branch, Apunba Jiribam Meira Paibi (AJMP), Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL), MSF Jiribam and another students' body.
