Imphal, June 13 2025: The opening function of the 14-day State Level Handloom Expo (Hathkargha Mela) was held at the Urban Haat, Nilakuthi, Imphal East today.

The expo was organised under the sponsorship of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

Speaking as the chief guest, Beauty Mili, Assistant Director & HoO, Wavers Service Centre, Porompat, expressed joy in seeing the high quality handloom and handicraft products showcased at the Mela.

She shared that Melas have been conducted under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles from time-to-time to support local weavers & artisans and provide a marketing platform.

Highlighting that the Government has taken up different initiatives to uplift weavers and artisans of the State, she urged the wavers to apply and avail the benefits of the schemes/programmes.

Beauty Mili also advised the weavers and artisans to not focus only on profit and maintain quality of the products to ensure a steady demand & market for these products.

Heikham Sunita Devi, State Awardee (Handloom) also attended the function as the guest of honour.
