Imphal, August 09 2025: Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura observed a memorial ceremony of theatre icon Ratan Thiyam at Manipuri Library and Research Centre located at Agartala on Saturday.

The observance was attended by Sahitya Akademi awardee Saratchand Thiyam as chief guest, ISKON Manipur Development Council general secretary Dusari Gopal as special guest and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Tripura president L Birmangal Singh as president.

Floral tributes were paid to the photo of Ratan Thiyam and a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Speaking at the observance, Saratchand Thiyam lamented that the sudden demise of Ratan Thiyam is not only a great loss for Manipur, but also for the entire world.

As part of the programme, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura announced that Ratan Thiyam's birth anniversary will be observed every year on January 20 .
