Science expo showcases students' skills

A five-day Science, Mathematics, and Environment Exhibition for Children 202425, organised by Science Unit of Department of Education (S), commenced on Tuesday at Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School, Keishamthong.
Speaking as the chief guest of the event held under the theme "Science and Technology for sustainable future", Education (S) director Ng Bhogendra Meitei, noted that the exhibition offers a valuable platform for children to showcase their ideas.
Commending efforts of teachers in supporting and guiding students in developing their projects, the director highlighted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasises vocational skills and skill development training, which can empower students to launch their own start-ups.

"Let us not allow children's ideas to end at this stage.
Instead, help them take their ideas to greater heights," he exhorted, adding that selected projects from this exhibition will represent the state at the national level competition.
He also urged teachers to continue providing all necessary support to students, especially those whose projects are chosen for national-level participation.
The department, he added, will extend every possible assistance in this regard.
Announcing that the BTech course at MTU is now open with an intake capacity of 45 students, Bhogendra proposed organising an interactive programme between students and teachers to help identify and select promising candidates from the state.
He urged higher secondary school principals to contact him regarding this initiative.
Delivering the presidential address, Education (School/Valley) additional director Bisheshwar Khumukcham, stated that the exhibition is held annually to help students engage with the rapidly changing world and contribute to positive change through their innovative ideas.
He also appealed to the teaching community to extend their support to students who are developing new ideas and working on creative projects.
He mentioned that students from both government and private schools are participating in the exhibition.
The selected projects from the district level are now competing in this state-level exhibition.
A total of 46 projects were submitted, out of which 11 are participating online.
From these 46 projects, 21 will be selected for the national-level exhibition.
The function was also attended by Education (School/Hills) additional director Dangmei Manglem and Education (S) Grievance Cell additional director G Anita Devi as guests of honour.
