IGNOU, Imphal joins 38th Convocation

Imphal, March 05 2025:
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organised its 38th Convocation on Wednesday, with the main ceremony held in New Delhi and simultaneous events across 39 regional centres, including Imphal.
Over 313,770 students nationwide were awarded degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
At the Imphal Regional Centre, the ceremony took place at Asha Hall, North AOC, with Prof Paonam Gunindro Singh, vice-chancellor Manipur University of Culture, as guest of honour.
He lauded IGNOU for its affordable, inclusive education and quoted the 'Brihadaranyaka Upanishad' to inspire the graduates.
Dr Salam Dilan Singh, senior regional director, highlighted IGNOU Imphal's growth since 2000, now serving rural, tribal, and marginalised communities through 16 Learner Support Centres.
He emphasised the recent introduction of Manipu-ri-language live classes via Swayam Prabha and YouTube, benefiting over 285 sessions and reaching diaspora populations.
Dr Dilan noted IGNOU's rising popularity due to its flexibility and accessibility.
A total of 1,808 learners from the Imphal centre were eligible for awards, including 1,423 master's and 300 bachelor's degrees.
Degrees were distributed by Prof Paonam Gunindro, with 217 graduates attending in person.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr O Jayalakshmi Devi, deputy director.
IGNOU continues to expand its reach, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of open and distance learning in India.
