Imphal, March 04 2025: A group of farmers along with entrepreneurs involved in farming and production of Kachai Lemon (Champra) and Orange (Tamenglong) left Imphal on Tuesday for training at the Central Citrus Institute in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

The team was flagged off by Horticulture and Soil Conservation commissioner Thaithuilung Panmei and director K Debadutta Sharma in a ceremony organised by Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation in front of the Department 's office near Sanjenthong on Tuesday afternoon.

In his brief address, director Debadutta said that both Kachai lemon and Tamenglong orange are GI tagged.

However, in times of infestation or disease, the farmers face a lot of inconveniences.

Also, there are times when they cannot meet the market demands.

As such, the farmers will undergo a three-day training at the Nagpur institute to understand how to address these issues and utilise available technologies, he stated.

The director also informed that around 15 progressive farmers from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts along with 10 farmers from Tamenglong and Noney districts with two officers from Megafruit Factory, Nilakuthi would be participating in the training.

He then urged the participating farmers and entrepreneurs to apply the knowledge gained during the training in the state and help increase the yield of the two fruits, which will in turn, help improve their financial position.
