AITUC calls for swift aid to Cyclone affected people

Imphal, June 03 2024: Highlighting destruction and suffering brought by cyclone Remal, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manipur State Committee has urged the government to provide swift assistance to the affected families.

In a statement, the Union noted that the state experienced series of natural disasters affecting thousands of families, who suffered damage and loss of properties including houses, farm animals and crops.

Considering the unpredictable weather pattern and mass deforestation in the hilly areas mainly for illegal poppy cultivation and new settlement, there is always the possibility of another crisis looming, the statement cautioned, while drawing attention of the government for providing relief assistance without any delay to the affected people.

The statement also called upon the government as well as the people to make this year's 'World Environment Day' observance meaningful by taking a firm stand against degradation of environment as well as for framing a strict policy to counter deforestation.
