Meira Paibi Lups appeal against price hike

Highlighting the hardships faced by the people in the wake of the unprecedented flood triggered by Cyclone Remal, All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur have appealed to traders to refrain from hiking prices of essential commodities to cover their losses.
On the third day of their relief operations, the two Meira Paibi Lups distributed food items to flood affected people of Sega Road Konjeng Hazari Leikai, Imphal West on Sunday.
Interacting with the media, AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani said that people of the state are already facing severe hardships due to the ongoing ethnic conflict lingering for over one year.
In such situation, hiking prices of essential commodities in the wake of the recent flood is breach of public trust and violation of their rights, which they cannot accept, she asserted.
The president demanded the government authority to announce prices of essential commodities to ensure fair pricing of commodities and prevent traders from taking undue advantage of the situation.
Poirei Leimarol secretary Thongam Apabi said that Meira Paibi Lups in the state have been spearheading public movements on social issues for decades.
They are now distributing relief materials to flood affected people acknowledging the impact of the flood and the idea of supporting people in times of hardships, she added.
