One-day capacity building programme held

A one-day capacity building programme on 'scientific livestock and poultry management' was held at the KVK, Chandel conference hall under the NICRA Project on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, NICRA Project nodal officer Dr.Kangjam Sonamani dwelt on the importance of integrating livestock into the farming systems in the hills and foothills.
He suggested climate-resilient breeds and scientific methods in order to mitigate climate change impacts and reduce disease risks due to the district's proximity with the international border.
The nodal officer also urged the farmers to adapt to livestock practices to supplement incpmes from conventional crops, particularly in response to shifting weather patterns.
KVK, Chandel head and specialist in animal husbandry, senior scientist Dr A Ameeta advised farmers to prioritise timely vaccinations to enhance profitability in livestock farming.
Reflecting on necessity of sustainable poultry and piggery practices as meat has been daily dietary staple for the tribal communities, she stressed the importance of maintaining clean, well-ventilated sheds, supplementing animal diets with minerals and vitamins, and providing proper care to prevent disease and ensure higher returns.
The programme was participated by 28 farmers and KVK staffers.
