Public made aware on river conservation

Imphal, February 27 2025:
A public awareness campaign on river conservation was conducted simultaneously at four locations across the state on Thursday.
Organised under the aegis of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur, and the Ministry of Jal Shakti's National River Conservation-Directorate (NRCD), the initiative featured various activities, including yoga sessions, river cleaning drives, and a spot painting competition under the theme "Save Rivers" .
At Keishamthong, the campaign was organised by Sana Janmasthan Club, and the Nambul River Development Committee.

Activities included a yoga session from 7 to 8 am, followed by a spot painting competition at 11 am.
Similar events were held at Iroisemba Irong Laipham, Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai, and Samushang, Naoremthong Khullem Leikai, where yoga sessions were conducted in the morning, followed by painting competitions.
The Iroisemba event was jointly organised by the Nambul River Protection Committee and the Iroisemba Youth Development Club.
Meanwhile, the sessions at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai were coordinated by the Nambul Turel Kanba Lup and Star Volunteers Corps (SVC), Awang Maibam Leikai.
The Samushang event was managed by the Lakhsh Pioneer Committee and Brilliant Club.
Addressing the significance of river conservation, development officer of Directorate of Environment and Climate Change Thounaojam Alexander Singh emphasised the urgent need to protect water resources for future generations.
He highlighted the Directorate's ongoing efforts, including cleaning drives, awareness campaigns, and collaborations with local organisations to safeguard Manipur's river ecosystems.
He also urged citizens to adopt sustainable practices to mitigate pollution and degradation.
The campaign concluded with a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the spot painting competition, held simultaneously across all four locations.
The event was also monitored in real-time through a virtual conference organised from the NRCD headquarters.
