Stakeholders meet on Kakching Master Plan

A meeting to discuss the formulation of a Master Plan for Greater Kakching under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 and the implementation of a Used Water Management (Liquid Waste Management Plant) Project under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 was held at the conference hall of Kakching Municipal Council on Saturday.
The meeting was organised by Kakching Municipal Council and attended by various stakeholders, including representatives of civil society organisations, clubs and intellectuals.
It was attended by Kakching Municipal Council caretaker chairperson Naorem Sanjitkumar, other caretaker councillors, senior chief executive officer Thokchom Shidartha, executive engineer Naorem Ramchandra, assistant engineer Salam Jugeshwar, ex-minister Nongmaithem Nimai, ex-MLA Yengkhom Surchandra, All Kakching Clubs Co-ordinating Committee Kakching, Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) Kakching, and members of various clubs, organisations and CSOs.
Addressing the gathering, Naorem Sanjitkumar explained that Manipur has 28 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), which include nine municipal councils, 18 nagar panchayats and one small town committee, in addition to the Imphal Municipal Corporation.
He said that towns with populations over 1 lakh fall under the Class I category, those with 50,000 to 1 lakh under Class II, and towns with populations below 50,000 under Class III .
While Imphal qualifies as a Class I town, Kakching, with a population of over 32,000, falls under Class II .
He further informed that Kakching Municipal Council, along with Thoubal, Lilong (Thoubal), Mayang Imphal and Nambol Municipal Councils, from among the 26 ULBs under the Class III category, has been selected for the formulation of the first Geographic Information System (GIS)-based Master Plan.
The meeting was convened to discuss the steps for developing this Master Plan and the implementation of the proposed liquid waste management project under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 .
